The first step
The first steps of teaching in Thailand.
A teacher is part friend, confidant, motivator, coach, actor, and leader, but most of all a teacher is an individual that sparks intellect and encourages students to pursue knowledge on their own.
Classrooms would be a boring place if every teacher taught the same way, that is why we encourage you to share yourself in the classroom and find the method of teaching that will be most effective for you and your students.
As you share your knowledge with your students in an open and honest manner you will find that they will return the favor tenfold.
Prior to teaching, travel or TEFL/TESL certification is not required, but is looked upon favorably.
The most critical skills to have are an open mind, a sense of humor, and flexibility.
Your skills as a native English speaker are the foundation of your teaching. Mix in compassion, patience, sincerity and preparation and you are ready for any ESL class.
If you take the time to ensure you are prepared, your classes will be more enjoyable for you and your students.
Lesson plans are the base of every good class, allowing you to stay focused on a specific subject and in return giving your students maximum learning potential. A good lesson plan will have a specific goal to achieve, identify previous knowledge required before starting, and provide a clear path to accomplishing the goal. The closing should reinforce the material from the lesson, giving students the ability to recognize progress.
